Goldie Evelyn (Boatright) Sanders of Flippin, Arkansas passed to the Lord on Wednesday September 17, 2008 at 11:40 P.M. at the Gassville Nursing Center, Gassville, Arkansas at the age of 94 years. Goldie had been residing at the Gassville Nursing Center sin July of 2004.Goldie was born on January 8, 1914 at or near Posey, Illinois the daughter of Grover E. and Minnie (Koch) Boatright. She married Edwin Charles “Snooky” Sanders on January 24, 1932 in Valparaiso, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on April 25, 1992. She is survived by two sons: Edwin Gordon “Sonny” Sanders of Pahrump, Nevada and Charles Michael “Mike” Sanders of Pensacola, Florida; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.Goldie was the last of her six siblings to leave this world and join her parents, spouse, one son and many family members in the house of the Lord.
She was raised in and around Clinton County, Illinois and moved to Chicago with her young family around 1940. She returned to live in Centralia from 1947 to 1960 and after a short stay in Phoenix, Arizona settled back in Chicago until she and Snooky retired in 1974 to north central Arkansas. She was living in Flippin, Arkansas when Snooky passed away and had been living alone until moving into the Gassville Nursing Center.Goldie had worked as an early switchboard operator for the Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. We will miss our loved one desperately but take warm satisfaction in the knowledge that she rests in the arms of the Lord.Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Keith Michaels officiating. The interment will follow at the Carlyle Cemetery.Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
