Edmund R. “Ed” Guerin, Jr., 79, of New Baden, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born July 14, 1930 in Peekskill, NY, son of Edmund R. and Lillian Guerin, Sr. He married Sharol Dichhaut on November 30, 1952 in Mascoutah and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Barbara (Craig) Rice of Blue Eye, MO, Cindy (Ron) Singler of Fairview Heights, Deb (Gregg) Wehrle of Belleville, and Sherri (Joe) Toenjes of Millstadt; seven grandchildren, Derek (Gaby) Rice of Chicago, Brian (Holly) Rice of Montgomery, IL, Mandy (Jeff) Singler of Trenton, Jenna (Dave) Singler of Kalamazoo, MI, Katy (Kerry) Singler of Bartelso, Nick Wehrle and Meghan Wehrle both of Belleville; three step-grandchildren, Shelly (Dale) Robke of Germantown, Sheila (Brad) Taylor of Albers, and Shirley Mugele of New Baden; two great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ellen Pries of Mascoutah; and a special four-legged friend “Fancy” (Big Red). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Guerin; and a brother-in-law, Richard Pries. Mr. Guerin was a farmer and a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden, a Director of Mid-America Dairy Association, and served on the Wesclin School Board. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden with Rev. Gretchen Sterrett officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until time of service Friday, July 2, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Zion United Church of Christ Building Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
