Kenneth L. Gunn, 72, of New Baden, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at his home. He was born December 23, 1940 in Tallulah, LA, son of Lee and Mae Belle (Panquin) Gunn, Sr. He married Glenda Pauline Wyant on May 14, 1960 in Gilman City, MO and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2011. He is survived by his children, Susan (Steve) Thurnau of St. Jacob, Jonathan (Lisa) Gunn, Christopher Gunn and Matthew (Lynn) Gunn all of New Baden; six grandchildren, Stefan (Lyndsie) Thurnau, Stacey Thurnau, Shari Thurnau, Joshua Gunn, Evan Gunn and Zackery Gunn; a great-grandchild, Charles Thurnau; brothers, J.C. Gunn, Lee Gunn, Jr., Walter (Ruby) Gunn and Paul Gunn; sister-in-law, Judith Ross; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James Ross. Mr. Gunn was an aircraft ground equipment mechanic at Scott Air Force Base. After his high school graduation he served in the United States Army and Air Force and retired from the 932nd Airlift Wing at Scott Air Force Base in 1995. He was a Cub Scout leader from 1971 to 1974. He enjoyed R.C. cars and planes, was a member of the Sport Flyers RC Club, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013, at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden with Pastor Carl Johnston officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday, August 30, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to Clinton Manor Activity Fund or to St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO and will be received at the funeral home.
