Jim Haar, 67, of Germantown, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born August 7, 1945 in Mattoon, IL, son of James E. and Rita (Lampe) Haar. He married Gerri Hermeling on November 24, 1973 in Germantown and she preceded him in death on November 17, 2009. He is survived by his mother, Rita Haar of New Baden; his children, Kevin (Tara) Haar of New Baden, Becky (Jim) Choat of Belleville, Sheila (Brian) Heimann of Germantown, Stacy (fiancé, Dave) Haar of Belleville, Josh (Teresa) Haar of St. Rose, and Colby (Sara) Haar of Damiansville; 17 grandchildren, Kevin Haar II, Ashley Haar, Morgan Choat, Kelsey Heimann, Brock Heimann, Abigail Heimann, Caitlin Asbury, Alyssa Asbury, Trevor Asbury, Diesel Haar, Macy Haar, Gracie Haar, Kaylie Choat, Levi Haar, Gavin Bilbruck, Gabrielle Bilbruck and Gianna Bilbruck; brothers and sisters, Harry (Doris) Haar of New Baden, Angela (Larry) Eversgerd of Germantown, Donna (Steve) Pasquale of New Baden, David Haar of Chippewa Falls, WI, Paul (Vickie) Haar of New Baden and Joe (Lydia) Haar of New Baden; sisters-in law and brother-in-law, Mary Jane Schrage of St. Rose and Barb and Joe Eilers of Breese; and special friend of the family, Paul Jansen of Germantown. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends. In addition to his wife and father he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Driscoll; brothers-in-law, Robert Driscoll and Mark Schrage; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Agnes (Winkler) Hermeling. Mr. Haar was a member of Laborers Local 742 in Mascoutah and had just received his 40 year pin. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish in Germantown. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Msgr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery in Germantown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 and from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
