Jeffrey R. Hampton, 58, of New Baden, formerly of Greenville died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at his home. He was born July 2, 1949 in Highland son of George H. and Donna Mae (Leihser) Hampton. He married Karen Kay Koontz on March 7, 1970 in Keysport and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Shawn Hampton, Travis Hampton and wife Angela and Ryan Hampton and wife Neala, all of New Baden; two grandchildren, Brandon Hampton and Kayla Hampton; one brother, John Hampton of Salem; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary and Lucy Koontz of New Baden, Janice and Dennis Blunt and David and Betsy Stockstill all of Greenville. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Bonnie Carver. Mr. Hampton was an electrical instructor at the American Trade School in St. Louis, MO. He was a former volunteer fireman for the Greenville Fire Department and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden with Rev. Brad Gruenewald officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Greenville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 and from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hampton Grandchildren’s Education Fund and will be received at the funeral home or any First County Bank.
