Robert A. Harrington, Sr., 85, of New Baden, formerly of Millstadt and Cahokia, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Countryside Manor, Aviston, IL. He was born October 6, 1925 in Ringgold, LA, son of Herbert and Armenta (Woodall) Harrington. He married Annie K. Wade in May of 1948 in Piggott, AR. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Annie K. Harrington of New Baden, two sons, Robert A. (Carolyn) Harrington, Jr. of Belleville, Michael (Dawn) Harrington of Columbia, and one daughter, Kathy (Dale) Craig of New Baden; seven grandchildren, Jeff Craig, Dale Craig, Jr., Tom Craig, Joe Craig, Kerri Egner, Derek Harrington, and Christopher Harrington; 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Stockdale of Belleville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Wade of Chester and Wanda and Ron Hooker of Dupo; he is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jesse Harrington; two sisters, Carrie Lois Ross and Frances Lorene Jackson; his sister-in-law, Evelyn Harrington and brothers-in-law, Virgil Ross, Wilbert Stockdale and Hubert Jackson. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII. He worked at Monsanto Company in Sauget, IL as an electrician and pipefitter and enjoyed many years of retirement. He was a loving and caring friend to all who knew him. He will forever be in our hearts. Special thanks to all the caregivers at Countryside Manor in Aviston, IL who took such loving care of dad in his last days. Also thanks to the home nurses of BJC Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden with Brother Gale Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until time of service Monday, November 8, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
