Marcella A. Haukap, 92, of Aviston, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at her home. She was born February 3, 1920 in Aviston, daughter of John and Margaret (Zurliene) Kues. She married Edward R. Haukap on November 23, 1943 in Aviston and he preceded her in death on December 18, 1996. Mrs. Haukap is survived by her children, Edward J. (Gerrie) Haukap of Aviston, Dale (Kim) Haukap of Aviston and Connie (Jim) Frierdich of Lebanon; a daughter-in-law, Rita Haukap of Damiansville; 11 grandchildren, Erin (Keith) Korte, Ryan (Jennifer) Haukap, Krista (Keno) Davis, Adam (Lauren) Haukap, Erica (fiancé, David Blessing) Haukap, Amy (Brian) Welzbacher, Steven (Leslie) Frierdich, Tony (friend, Ashley) Frierdich, Joseph Frierdich, Katie Haukap, and Lucas Haukap; seven great-grandchildren, Brady Davis, Mara Davis, Avery Haukap, Ari Haukap, Julia Korte, Trent Korte, and Elijah Frierdich; three step great-grandchildren, Wil, Valerie and Elizabeth Rommerskirchen; a sister, Frances Shaller of St. Louis, MO; a sister-in-law, Linda Kues of Aviston; and a brother-in-law, Francis Kruep of Carlyle. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Mike Haukap; a great-granddaughter, Allison Korte; three brothers, Richard G. Kues, Theodore “Dick” Kues, and Oscar Kues; five sisters, Catherine Bussen, Genevieve Markus, Teresa Stephen, Rita L. Netemeyer, and Helen Bussen; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elvira “Sis” Kues, Bob Shaller, Bill Bussen, Leo Markus, Marjorie Kues, Art Stephen, Alvin Netemeyer, Ollie Bussen, Pauline and Ed Varel, Emma and Ed Nordhaus, Helen and Fred Randant, Bernice and Quintin Maehlmann, Alice Kruep, Elmer and Mary Ann Haukap, and Emelia and Martin Reichert, and two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law in early childhood. Mrs. ired seamstress for Marine Garment Factory in Highland. She was a member of St. Francis Parish and Ladies Sodality in Aviston, a charter member of the American Legion Post 1239 Auxiliary in Aviston and a former member of the Illinois Ladies Garment Workers Union. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. and the American Legion Auxiliary will visit at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, Mater Dei High School Building Fund or to St. Francis Parish Building Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
