Fred L. Hayter, 83, of New Baden, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Bohannon Care Center in Lebanon. He was born June 16, 1923 in Carbondale, son of Fred L. and Hazel (Brown) Hayter. He married Mona Bartholomy December 24, 1947 in East St. Louis and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Bruce Hayter and wife Debbie of Cary, NC; a daughter, Kathy Vale and husband Jim of Indianapolis, IN; and two granddaughters, Amanda Hayter and Courtney Hayter. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Aileen LeRoy, Maxine Gregory and Kathryn Williams. Mr. Hayter was a retired carpenter. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in WWII. He was a member of Eastview Baptist Church in Belleville, Veterans of Foreign Wars post 8677 in Fairview Heights, the American Legion Post 321 in New Baden, and the Carpenters Local 169 in East St. Louis. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 at Eastview Baptist Church, 211 Sherman in Belleville with Pastor Ron McGrew officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden and on Friday, February 9 from 9 AM until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eastview Baptist Church Building Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
