Charles G. Hegger, 89, of Aviston, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. He was born March 5, 1923 in Breese, son of William and Anna (Lampe) Hegger. He married Eileen Lager February 15, 1950 in Aviston and she preceded him in death on September 18, 1982. He then married Mary (Dust) Tegenkamp on June 9, 1984 in Breese and she survives in Aviston. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six sons, Gary (Sarah) Hegger of Ft. Wayne, IN, Kevin (Marla) Hegger, James (Diane) Hegger, David (Debbie) Hegger, and Tom (Donna) Hegger all of Aviston, Kurt (Nancy) Hegger of O’Fallon, MO; two daughters, Charleen (Terry) Sudholt of Aviston and Betsy (Matt) Horstmann of Trenton; two step-sons, Dennis (Debbie) Tegenkamp of Breese, Paul (Evelyn) Tegenkamp of Keysport; two step daughters, Diane (Jack) Huelskamp and Donna (Larry) Root all of Breese; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren and 15 step great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Everest Hegger of Hot Springs, AR, Bill Hegger of Racine, WI, Marvin (Nina) Hegger of Pleasanton, CA, Lorraine Horrell of Apollo, PA, and Anna Mae Frisse of Highland; and a sister-in-law, Ann Hegger of Marshall, IL.
In addition to his first wife and his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Karl Hegger; three sisters, Elvira King, Eugenia Vargo, and Martha Kurtz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lee Hegger, Ruth Hegger, Jack Horrell, John Frisse, John King, Joe Vargo and Frank Kurtz.
Mr. Hegger was a self employed bus driver and excavating contractor. He was a WWII Purple Heart United States Army Veteran having served in the European Theater. He was a member of St. Francis Parish, American Legion Post 1239 and Knights of Columbus Post 11110, all in Aviston. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton with Rev. Joe Rascher officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 and from 8 a.m. 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. The Knights of Columbus will hold service at 6:30 and the American Legion at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Parish, American Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
