Maurice B. "Mays" Heidel, 67, of New Baden, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. He was born June 20, 1940 in Breese, son of Herman and Mary (Mensing) Heidel. He married Diane G. Kalmer on June 20, 1967 in Damiansville and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Kurt (special friend Lisa Hoerchler) Heidel of New Baden and Ryan (Holley) Heidel of Highland; three grandchildren, Kerry Ann McCallister, Evan Heidel and Hunter Heidel; one brother, Tom Heidel of Nashville, IL; mother-in-law, Rita Kalmer of Damiansville, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Iona Heidel of Red Bud, John Haar of New Baden, Darlene and Bernie Louth of Belleville, Rodger and Lois Kalmer of Damiansville, Donna and Ed Moyer of Aviston and Debbie and Dave Stanton of Valparaiso, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Suzanne Heidel on August 9, 1968; a brother, Bill Heidel; three sisters, Florence Haar, Helen Haar and Vi Lancaster; brothers-in-law, Ben Haar, Julius Lancaster, Dennis Kalmer and Joe Kalmer; and his father-in-law, Vic Kalmer. Mr. Heidel was a baker for 53 years at Hills Bakery and most recently at Belleville West High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family (checks to Family of Maurice B. Heidel) and will be received at the funeral home.
