Matthew Allen Heinzmann, 21, of Breese, died Monday, November 14, 2011 at his home. He was born March 23, 1990 in St. Louis, MO, son of Joe and Margie (Rakers) Heinzmann. He is survived by his parents, Joe and Margie Heinzmann of Breese; two brothers, Craig (special friend, Amanda) Heinzmann of Breese and Adam Heinzmann of Edwardsville; his grandparents, Harold “Joe” and Verla Heinzmann of New Baden; aunts and uncles, Jim and Brenda Heinzmann, Gerry Heinzmann, Mary Jane and Leo Wagner, Jerome and Edna Rakers, Don and Ruth Mary Rakers, Mary O’Brien, Walter “Peepers” Rakers, Howard and Marilou Rakers, and Tony “Jr.” and Mary Rakers; he is also survived by numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tony and Leona Rakers and an uncle, Tom O’Brien. Matt was a senior at Illinois State University in Normal, IL. In 2010 he was selected “Outstanding Junior in Business Administration”. Earlier this year he was awarded the ISU Disability Concerns “Will to Succeed” Scholarship. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Matt was a 2004 graduate of All Saints Academy and graduated with honors from Mater Dei Catholic High School in 2008. He was named 2008 Knight of the Year, served as Student Council President and played varsity baseball and football. He also played Senior Legion Baseball for Post 1239 in Aviston and Junior Legion Baseball for Post 252 in Breese. He was a member of St. Augustine Parish in Breese. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Vince Haselhorst officiating. Burial will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 and from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clinton County Relay For Life or the Matthew Heinzmann Scholarship Fund at Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
