Helen A. Meyer, nee Leonard, 92, of Albers and formerly of Beckemeyer, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Aviston Countryside Manor. She was born May 30, 1923 in Germantown, the daughter of Bernard and Francis (Nordhaus) Leonard. She married Clinton “Punkin” Meyer on November 10, 1955 and he preceded her in death on January 21, 1999.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Schomaker of Albers; grandchildren, Cole Schomaker of Albers, and Anna, Rebecca, and Benjamin Meyer all of Jacksonville, IL; a brother, Wilbert (Bernette “Mooky”) Leonard of Germantown; a sister, Evelyn (Ralph) Gonzalez of Jacksonville, IL; along with many friends and family members at Aviston Countryside Manor.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Meyer who died on November 4, 2014; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene & Kenneth Hopfinger of Belleville; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Mary (Peiler) Meyer of Beckemeyer; and a brother-in-law, Bill Fauke of Beckemeyer.
Mrs. Meyer and her husband owned and operated “Punkin’s Tavern” in Beckemeyer for many years. She also worked at Wee Walker (Trimfoot) in Carlyle until her retirement. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and piecing quilt tops in her spare time. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and never missed watching them on TV. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, friends, and family. Helen always had a positive attitude on life.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Jim Buerster officiating. Burial at St. Anthony Cemetery in Beckemeyer.
Friends may call Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 7 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Nordike Funeral Home in Albers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Bernard Parish or Aviston Countryside Manor and will be received at the funeral home.
