Henrietta A. Kalmer, 92, of New Baden, born April 29, 1923 in Aviston, died Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. She was the daughter of Gerhard and Frances (Hellmann) Rakers. She married Hubert Kalmer, Sr. on October 25, 1944 in Mascoutah and he preceded her in death on October 7, 1992.
She is survived by her children, Hubert Kalmer, Jr., Ruth (Paul) Schauster, and Ron (Debbie) Kalmer all of New Baden, Helen (Ron) Henken of Germantown, Bruce (Debbie) Kalmer and Linda (Robert) Goff of New Baden, and Janet (Leonard) Pollmann of Seymour, IN; a daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Kalmer of Belleville; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Cletus (Margie) Rakers and Francis (Mary Jo) Rakers.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three sons, Richard, Allen, and Brian Kalmer; a granddaughter, Andrea Pollmann; three sisters, Eugenia “Gainey” (Ben) Rensing, Flora (Leonard) Fiedler, and Gertrude Rakers; five brothers, Oscar Rakers, Henry “Hank” (Ann) Rakers, Albin “Al” (Henrietta “Jetty”) Rakers, Richard (Marcella) Rakers, and Gerald Rakers; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alphonse (Leona) Kalmer, Leo (Marian) Kalmer, Agnes (Emil) Becherer, Marie (Bernard) Korte, Estella (Simon) Stukenburg, William Kalmer, Henry Kalmer, and Edwin Kalmer.
Mrs. Kalmer was a homemaker and also worked at the Martha Manning Hat Factory in Mascoutah. She was a member of St. George Parish and the New Baden Senior Citizens. Henrietta enjoyed playing cards, quilting, camping, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2015 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Friends may call Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
Memorials may be made to St. George Parish or Family Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
