Henry Edward Becker, 90, of rural Breese, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at The Villas at St. James in Breese. He was born January 25, 1927, in Bartelso, the son of John and Mary (Wichmann) Becker. He married Olive P. Huels on October 22, 1949, in Marydale and she preceded him in death on November 22, 2015.
Ed is survived by his five sons, Bill (Joanie) Becker, Doug (Sandy) Becker, Terry (Jean) Becker, Rocky (Marilyn) Becker, and John (Rea Lynn) Becker; 14 grandchildren, Matt (Staci) Becker, David Becker, Libbey (Danny) LaSavio, Mark (Emily) Becker, Alicia Becker, Luke Becker, Brian (Stacey) Becker, John (Melissa) Becker, Kristi (Brad) Korte, Laurie (Mike) Welch, Jesse Becker, Katie (fiancée Ryan) Becker, Jacob Becker, and Sam Becker; 11 great-grandchildren; his sister, Barb (John) Krebs; his in-laws, Leona Becker, Betty Huels, Matt (Rita) Huels, Edward ‘Joey’ (Nancy) Huels; and many loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bertha (Dick) Mroczek, his brother, Cyril 'Mick' Becker; and his in-laws, Sister Joette Huels; Louis Huels, Kate (Adolph) VonHatten, Paul (Aggie) Huels, and Carl (Helen) Huels.
Mr. Becker joined the Merchant Marines after high school during the latter part of WW II. He worked at the Beckemeyer Smelter before starting at the Union Electric power plant in Venice where he worked for 30 plus years. Ed was a former athlete and a sports fan, especially of local sports. He was one of the original incorporators for the Clinton County Baseball League, where he also played for many years. He was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.
Friends and relatives may call from 8 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2017, at Nordike Funeral Home in Breese.
Memorials may be made to Mater Dei High School, All Saints Academy, St. Dominic Parish, or the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
