Arnold E. Henss, 84, of New Baden, died Thursday, January 4, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born April 26, 1922 in Lebanon Township, St. Clair County, IL, son of Arnold H. and Frieda (Seger) Henss. He married Wilma D. Wolf on June 7, 1945 in Trenton and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sister Margaret Anne (Judith) Henss, PHJC of Donaldson, IN, Jackie Weik and husband Gary of Bedford, TX, Chuck Henss and wife Cindi of Leawood, KS, Janice Wiegmann and husband Dan of New Baden, Mary Becker and husband Bernell of Beckemeyer, Arnold J. Henss and wife Linda of Trenton, Magdalene "Maggie" Peters of Germantown, Melissa Netemeyer and husband Bob of Albers, Paul Henss and wife Bev of Albers, John Henss and wife Mary of Breese, Mark Henss and fiancee, Jessica Vonderheide of Albers, Donna Litteken and husband Bob of Trenton, and Diane "Fritz" Maue and husband Steve of Aviston; 35 grandchildren, Kevin (Susan) Weik, Kim, Kris, Keith and Joe Weik, Elise Wright, August (fiance, Jason Harrison) Zepeda, Eric (Kim) Wiegmann, Kate (Jeff) Ripperda, Josh &Zach Wiegmann, Neil & Paul Becker, Jennifer (Cory) Jasper, Jessica (Brian) Dobrynski, Jarid (fiancee, Jamie Holtmann) Henss, Julie & Jeff Henss, Michelle Peters, Nancy (finace, Tom Rakers) Peters, Stephanie Peters, Matt Netemeyer, Karen (Nick) Schroeder, Lauren Netemeyer, Brad, Bryan & Nick Henss, Nathan (Sara) Henss, Kyle Henss, Jacob, & Jordan Henss, Courtney Litteken, and Emily, Larisa & Nicole Maue ; eleven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Allison & Meghan Weik, Lucas & Trinity Harrison, Beck Wiegmann, Greta Ripperda, Travis & Tyler Jasper, Elliott Rakers and Brayden Henss; a sister, Marie Kruep of Highland; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jane Henss of Trenton and Norbert and Lorna Wolf of Swansea. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Aimee Henss; two brothers, Paul Henss and Melvin Henss; a sister, Margaret Henss; brother-in-law, Vincent Kruep and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Lena Wolf. Mr. Henss was a dairy farmer. He was a member of St. George Parish, charter member of Trenton Knights of Columbus Council 2932, charter member of New Baden Knights of Columbus council 10311, and was named Sir Knight Arnold E. Henss by Bishop Althoff Assembly 0193 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus for 25 years of loyal and faithful service. He was a member of New Baden Lions Club, New Baden Senior Citizens and Mater Dei Fathers and Friends Club. He was a former member and Director of Mid America Dairymen Association, former board member of Farm Credit Services, former member of St. Clair County Farm Bureau, former board member of Summerfield School Board, and a former member of St. Mary Parish in Trenton. He also sponsored Lazurus Kagiri Ann, a child in Kenya. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2007 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Trenton. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2007 and from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2007 at Hempen Funeral in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 2 p.m., the senior citizens will visit at 5 p.m., the Lions Club at 7 p.m. and there will be a Knights of Columbus Chalice Service at 8 p.m., all Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mater Dei High School, Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ or Clinton Manor Activity Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
