Michael D. “Mike” Hobbs I, 56 of Breese, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at Arizona Regional Medical Center in Mesa, AZ. He was born March 20, 1952 in East St. Louis, IL son of Clarence “Dean” and Bertha (Bell) Hobbs. He is survived by a son, Michael D. Hobbs II; his dear companion, Roberta Emerson of Breese; his aunt, Viola Prineas of Carbondale, IL, numerous cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary E. Hobbs. Mr. Hobbs was a carpenter and truck driver and was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He served during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 252 in Breese and the Veteran of Foreign Wars. Mike was an avid coin collector and loved the outdoors and fishing. He was also very active in veteran affairs. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese with Rev. Lisa Hart officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Belleville, IL Friends may call from 10 a. m. until 12 noon, Friday, January 23, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 252 in Breese or to the Marine Corp. League in Greenville, IL and will be received at the funeral home.
