Daniel N. Hollenkamp, 47, of Aviston, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO after receiving an artificial heart and was awaiting a heart transplant. He was born September 30, 1962 in Breese, son of Joe and Bernice (Kapp) Hollenkamp. Dan is survived by his siblings, Robert H. (fiancee Deann Vogel) Hollenkamp of Highland, Nancy A. (special friend John Becker) Nettemeier of Aviston, William A. (special friend Wendy Parks) Hollenkamp of Carlyle and Jeffrey (special friend Cindy Lienau) Hollenkamp of O’Fallon. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Jim Nettemeier. He was employed by Arrow Group Industries in Breese for 24 years. He was a member of St. Francis Parish in Aviston and United Steel Workers of America Local 25 in St. Louis, MO. Dan was a car enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with his nephews at car shows. He also enjoyed deer hunting. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2009 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Mid-America Transplant Services and will be received at the funeral home.
