Virgil H. Hollenkamp, age 85, of New Baden, IL, born Tuesday, December 31, 1929, in Aviston, IL passed away peacefully at his home
on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Virgil was a retired farmer. He worked for 27 years at the Hunter Packing House in East St. Louis, IL and was a concrete mixer truck driver for a number of years. He was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden, the Holy Name Society and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; beating everyone at cards, telling and listening to hunting stories; traveling; working in the yard and helping
his children with home projects. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eugenia Hollenkamp nee Kniepmann; his sister, Florence Seiffert, and grandson, Matthew Joy. Virgil is survived by his wife, Marie, nee Wiegmann, of New Baden, IL, whom he married on September 5th, 1951, at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden. His children; Andy Hollenkamp and wife Debbie of Belleville, Barbara Joy and husband Dave of Belleville, Floyd Hollenkamp and wife Lynn of Breese, and Brenda Wisnasky and husband Mike of Troy. His grandchildren: Mike Hollenkamp (Deana), Lisa Hollenkamp (special friend Bob), Ashley Carter (Wes), Katie Rusaw (Michael), Chris Joy (Nadine), John Hollenkamp (special friend Kelsey), James Hollenkamp (Amy), Jeff Hollenkamp (Jenn), Allyssa Hollenkamp, Nic Hollenkamp, Brian Baglin (special friend Jill), Allan Baglin, Greg Wisnasky, Courtney Cardona (Fiancé Caleb) and Elliott Wisnasky; and seven Great Grandchildren; As well as his brother George Hollenkamp (Rosina) of Aviston; Sister, Ruth Timmermann (Richard) of Breese. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 and from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to the charity of donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
