Sara D. Hostmeyer, 99, of Breese, died March 17, 2015 at Caseyville by BestDiscountApp" href="#"Nursing Home in Caseyville, IL. She was born November 24, 1915 in Louisville, IL daughter of Fred and Nell (Harmon) Yaap. She married Emmett Hostmeyer on November 14, 1940 at St. John United Church of Christ in Breese and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1986. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, William H. Yaap, Sr. and her sister, Genelle McCullough (Yaap). She is survived by nieces, Andrea (Rick) Speckman, Jean McCullough, Alida (Terry) McCartney, Marion (Ted) Behrman and nephew William (Annie) Yaap, Jr. and brother-in-law, John McCullough, and many loving great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hostmeyer was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and Women’s Guild, past president of the American Legion Post 252 Auxiliary, St. Joseph Hospital volunteer, Breese Women’s Club, Breese Literature Club, Carlyle Audobon Society, Breese Senior Citizens, and an Honorary member of the U.S. Air Force for volunteer work done during World War II. When Sara was two years of age, her parents who were both born and raised in Illinois, went to Montana where they homesteaded. There in Montana, Sara grew up enjoying life on the ranch. After she graduated from high school, she returned to Illinois, studied beauty culture and for twenty-five years operated her own beauty shop which was located on the second floor of the Old State by BestDiscountApp" href="#"Bank building in Breese. She then worked for sixteen years as a tour guide for Carol Tours of St. Louis, MO. For many years she also enjoyed helping her husband with The Hostmeyer and Straeter Auctioneer Services. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. John United Church of Christ in Breese with Rev. Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Breese. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday March 21, 2015 at St. John United Church of Christ in Breese. Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ and will be received at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home which is serving the family.
