Adolph A. “Bud” Hug, 81, of New Baden, died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Trenton Village in Trenton. He was born June 3, 1931 in Belleville son of Adolph and Pearl (Stock) Hug. He married Katherine P. Golsch on March 2, 1968 in Nashville and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2012. He is survived by a step-son, Herman (Dolores) Fauke of Carlyle and a step-daughter, Ellarine (Robert “Smitty”) Santel of Damiansville; five step-grandchildren, Edward (Kristie) Santel, Sonja (Jeff) Jansen, Chris Santel, Cindy (Don) Terveer, and Aaron (fiancée, Kim) Fauke; several step great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Magdalene E. Wilken of New Baden and Agnes Teague of St. Louis, MO; and nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Amelia and Ray Haas, Anne and Herman Broeckling, Mary and Alfred Fauke, Elfrieda and Louis Reinhardt, George P. Wilken and Hanson Teague. Mr. Hug was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 28 years and retired in 1991. He also formerly worked for the Empire Stove Foundry in Belleville. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War era and served on a submarine while stationed in Hawaii. He was a member of St. George Parish where he was also an usher and a server. He was a member of the New Baden American Legion Post 321, New Baden Knights of Columbus Council #10311, the New Baden Lions Club and the Belleville Stove Mounters Local. Bud’s special interests were fishing, hunting, and gardening and he enjoyed decorating for the holidays. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m., the Knights of Columbus will visit at 6:30 p.m., and the American Legion will visit at 7 p.m., all Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 321, St. George Renovation Fund or to the donor’s choice will be received at the funeral home.
