Katherine P. Hug, 94, of New Baden, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. She was born April 24, 1918 in New Baden daughter of Adolph and Katie (Kinzle) Golsch. She married Adolph “Bud” Hug on March 2, 1970 in Nashville and he survives in New Baden. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Herman (Dolores) Fauke of Carlyle and a daughter, Ellarine (Robert “Smitty”) Santel of Damiansville; five grandchildren, Edward (Kristie) Santel, Sonja (Jeff) Jansen, Chris Santel, Cindy (Don) Terveer, and Aaron (fiancée, Kim) Fauke; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Magdalene E. Wilken of New Baden and Agnes Teague of St. Louis, MO; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters, Amelia Haas, Anne Broeckling, Mary Fauke and Elfrieda Reinhardt; and six brothers-in-law, George P. Wilken, Ray Haas, Hanson Teague, Herman Broeckling, Alfred Fauke, and Louis Reinhardt. Mrs. Hug was a homemaker. She was a member of St. George Parish, the Sodality and the choir. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 321 Auxiliary, New Baden Senior Citizens, and the Mascoutah Moose Lodge 815 in Mascoutah. Katherine loved her music and singing. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to the St. George Cemetery Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
