James Stanley (Jim) Kaltenbronn, formerly of New Baden, IL and Ann Arbor, MI passed away on February 6, 2023 at the age of 88. He was born November 21, 1934 in New Baden, the youngest child of Lawrence and Martha (Karpinski) Kaltenbronn.
Jim graduated from New Baden High School in 1952 and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois in 1956 with a BS in Chemistry. He then furthered his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by earning his Doctorate in Organic Chemistry in 1960. Jim went to work for Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis (later acquired by Pfizer) in 1960. He worked for them his entire career receiving the company’s highest honor, the Chairman’s Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award, in 1988. Jim’s work at Pfizer resulted in multiple patents of chemical compounds for treatment of several diseases. As a result of Jim’s dedication and ingenuity, advancements in the treatment of heart disease, autoimmune diseases, kidney disease and cancer will benefit society for decades to come.
Jim is survived by his brother, Gene Kaltenbronn of Four Seasons, MO. Nieces, Kathleen Harris, Chiefland, FL; Phyllis Culpepper, Oklahoma City, OK; Pam Paulson, Birchwood, WI; Nephews, Dr. Emil Strotheide, Springfield, MO; Dr. Thomas Kaltenbronn, Fairview Heights, IL and Jon Kaltenbronn, Eldon, MO.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, his sisters, Loretta Strotheide and Bernice Kaltenbronn and a niece, Jann Bernardi.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date with interment at Resurrection Cemetery, New Baden, IL.
Memorials in memory of James can be made to the charity of the donor's choice and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
