ENC (SS) James A. Wieter, US Navy (Ret), age 80, of Aviston passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born in Aviston on September 7, 1938 the son of Anthony and Helen (Schulte) Wieter.
He is survived by two sons, Scott Wieter and wife Sheila and John Wieter and wife JoLynn all of Aviston; six grandchildren, Madeline, Annabelle, Jake, Mason, Zac, and Joe; a brother, Cornell (Katherine) Wieter of Peoria, AZ; and his brother-in-law, Allen Harem of Trenton.
James was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as three brothers: Ralph (Lupe) Wieter, Jerome “ToJo” Wieter, and Vernon Wieter; his sister, Vernell Harem.
Mr. Wieter was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served in the Vietnam War and retired in 1979 as a Engineman Chief Petty Officer and took a job at Goodfellow Federal Center in St. Louis until his complete retirement. He was a member of the Aviston Legion Post 1239, Vietnam Veterans of America - Clinton County Chapter # 269, and the Shoal Creek Fishing Club. James enjoyed hunting, fishing and frying chicken for the Aviston Legion. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Nordike Funeral Home in Aviston. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston with full military honors accorded.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 11:00 AM on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Nordike Funeral Home in Aviston.
Memorials made in Mr. Wieter’s memory are suggested to Vietnam Veterans of America - Clinton County Chapter # 269 or to the charity of donor’s choice and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home.
