Catherine M. "Katie" Jansen, 89, of Albers, died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was born May 16, 1917 in Germantown, daughter of Herman and Anna (Schleper) Pingsterhaus. She married Albert J. Jansen October 2, 1946 in Germantown and he preceded in death on April 9, 1990. She is survived by two sons, Virgil Jansen and wife Marilyn of Swansea and James Jansen and wife Ruth of Germantown; three daughters, Mary Niehenke and husband Leroy of Midland, VA, JoAnn Timmermann and husband David of Breese, and Geralyn Pollmann and husband Charlie of Beckemeyer; 15 grandchildren, Dean Jansen and wife Amy, Keith Jansen and wife Callie, David Jansen and wife Dana, Jennifer Leonard and husband Scott, Ryan Jansen and wife Kelly, Renee Jansen, Andrew Jansen, Matthew Timmermann, Michael Timmermann, Adam Pollmann, Eric Pollmann, Allen Pollmann, Michelle Rowland and husband Dan, Dan Niehenke and wife Lauretta and Tim Niehenke and fiancée, Jessica; 11 great -grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Spihlmann of Germantown and Christine Beckmann of Germantown; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Bernard Spihlmann of Germantown, Laura Pingsterhaus of Germantown, Ray & Adele Jansen of Albers, Vincent & Marie Jansen of Aviston, Norbert Jansen of Albers, Ed & Norma Jansen of Albers, Marie & Larry Straeter of St. Rose, Clara & Robert Schachner of O’Fallon, Sister Eulogia Jansen, ASC of Ruma and Henrietta Jansen of Bartelso. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Pingsterhaus; her father-in-law & mother-in-law, William & Margaret Jansen; and brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Frank Beckmann, Leo Jansen, Martha & Al Varel, and Estelle & Aloys Heimann. Mrs. Jansen was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Ladies Sodality, Daughters of Isabella Circle 718, Associates of ASC, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Post 1026 Auxiliary and the Clinton County Farm Bureau. She was a Lookingglass precinct 3 poll judge, a volunteer (Pink Lady) at St. Joseph Hospital and an American Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer. She loved quilting and playing cards and after her and her husband retired from farming they enjoyed traveling together. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2006 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2006 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Hempen Funeral Home in Albers. The Daughters of Isabella will pray the rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Bernard Parish or to St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and will be received at the funeral home.
