Linda K. Johnson, 57, of New Baden, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. She was born December 5, 1956 in Breese, daughter of Raymond A. and Theresia D. (Toeben) Herzing. She is survived by her mother, Theresia Herzing of New Baden; two daughters, Nicole (Mark) Knobeloch of New Memphis and Kelli (Allen) Gilbert of New Baden; nine grandchildren, Lathian Walthes, Tristen Casby, Kaitlynn, Jaron, and Adelyn Knobeloch, and Meghan, Tyler, Wyatt, and Emily Gilbert; two sisters, Lisa (Mark) Stanton, III of Tamaroa and Julie (Bill) Petz of New Baden; three brothers, Raymond B. (Robin) Herzing of New Baden, Rick (Ann) Herzing of Belleville, and Roger Herzing of New Baden. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her former husband and the father of her children, Ron Johnson of New Baden. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ben Toeben, Ted Toeben, Dorothy Toeben, and Alfred & Knola Herzing. Ms. Johnson retired from U of I Cooperative Extension in Breese. She was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. Linda enjoyed her grandchildren. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff and Deacon John Fridley officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis, MO or Community Link and will be received at the funeral home.
