Joseph V. Peppenhorst of Beckemeyer died Friday, October 5, 2012 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 89 years. Mr. Peppenhorst was born in on December 20, 1922, the son of John and Catherine (Hustedde) Peppenhorst. He married June Rolfingsmeyer on September 4, 1946 at St. Augustine Church in Breese, and she preceded him in death on July 25, 2000.
Also preceding Mr. Peppenhorst in death were his parents; wife; granddaughter: Jennifer Luebbers; sisters: Marie Suarez and Monica Halluin; and brothers: Leander Peppenhorst, Paul Peppenhorst and Anthony Peppenhorst.
Joe is survived by his daughters: Phyllis Miller and husband Mike of Bartelso, Donna Luebbers and husband Joe of Beaver Prairie and Jean Gray and husband Mark of Beaver Prairie; his very dear friend: Alvina "Al" Donnewald of Carlyle; sisters-in-law: Vernell Rolfingsmeyer of Breese and Grace Peppenhorst of Carlyle; brother-in-law: Melvin Walter of Highland; 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Mr. Peppenhorst was a member of St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer. Joe served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of and helped found the Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post #1227 in Beckemeyer, and served as Post Commander and Sergeant at Arms. He helped found the Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Drill Team and served as the Drill Sergeant for many years. He formerly was a truck driver for Peppenhorst Trucking of Beckemeyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 8, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer with Fr. Chuck Tuttle and Deacon Bob Lippert officiating. The interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery with military services performed by the Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post #1227.
Friends may visit with the Peppenhorst family on Sunday from for 4 to 8:00 P.M. or on Monday from 8 to 9:30 A.M. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle.
