Tsgt. Karrel A. Spicer USAF, Ret.

October 19, 1936 — February 26, 2017

Karrel A. Spicer, age 80, of New Baden, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at his residence. He was born October 19, 1936 in Georgetown, IL, the son of Lloyd R. and Frances (Baldwin) Spicer. He married Donna L. Holmes June 7, 1958 in Kansas City, KS, and she survives in New Baden.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Michael A. (Gail) Spicer of Trenton, IL, Donald W. Spicer of Tulsa, OK, and Donna E. Spicer of Charleston, IL; four grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, and Lara Spicer, and Rachel (Blake) Spindler; a great-grandson, Cole Spicer; two brothers, Danny (Darlene) Spicer of Indianapolis, IN, and Ronald (Darlene) Spicer of Wabash, IN; three sisters, Eleanor (Dan) Smith of Williamsport, IN, Patsy Cherney of Covington, IN, and Sally (John) Gallez of Westville, IL; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John (Pat) Holmes of Phoenix, AZ, Helen Marie Holmes of Lenexa, KS, Barbara Jean (Bill) Smith of Beaverton, OR; and his good friend, Rick Santel.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley Spicer; a sister, Shirley Holford; two brothers, David L. and Lloyd R. Spicer; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy & John McKearney, Edna Spicer, and Sue Spicer, Bill Cherney and Bob Holford.

TSgt. Spicer traveled the world while he served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic before retiring from Scott AFB after 20 years of service. After retirement Mr. Spicer spent his time fishing and gardening. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 8 a.m. until time of services at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden.

Memorials may be made to the St. George Building Fund or HSHS Hospice and will be received at the church or Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover, New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
