Dennis E. “Wheel” Kehrer, 66, of Albers, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. He was born November 4, 1946 in Breese, son of Elmer J. and Margaret (Toennies) Kehrer. He married Deb Kassen on April 30, 1982 in Miami, OK and she survives in Albers. In addition to his wife, Mr. Kehrer is survived by his three children, Edward (Erin) Kehrer of Mt. Vernon, Cheryl Kehrer and Sara Kehrer all of Albers; brothers and sisters, Eugene (Pam) Kehrer of Aviston, Susan (Marion) Seidenstricker of Nashville, Kevin Kehrer of Albers, Marikay (Rick) Gaertner of Belleville, Geriann (Ron) Norrenberns, and Diann Kehrer all of Albers; his mother-in-law, Florence Kassen of Albers; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James “Pete” Kassen of Carterville, David & Phyllis Kassen, Donald & Jill Kassen all of Damiansville, Diane “Fritz” & Fred Strubhart and Barb & Ken Schroeder all of Bartelso, Brenda Kassen of Albers, and Kevin & Teresa Haas of Trenton. He was anticipating the birth of his first grandchild in January 2013. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice Kehrer; his father-in-law, Clarence B. “Kassey” Kassen; and a sister-in-law, Brenda M. Haas. Mr. Kehrer was a 1965 graduate of Mater Dei High School. He was a former co-owner of E.J. Kehrer Farm Supply, INC. and was a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve. He was a member of St. Bernard Parish, a life member, past president and past adjutant of the American Legion Post 1026 in Albers, an honorary member of the Clin-Clair Fire Department where he was past Fire Chief, and he was a past president for the Albers Jaycees. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Jack Joyce and Deacon Glenn Netemeyer officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in Albers. The Clin-Clair Fire Department will visit the funeral home Thursday at 6:30 PM Memorials may be made to Clin-Clair Fire Department or to the American Legion Post 1026 and will be received at the funeral home.
