Margaret Kehrer, 89, of Albers, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Faith Countryside Nursing Home in Highland. She was born November 5, 1922 in Albers, daughter of Henry and Mary (Fuehne) Toennies. She married Elmer J. Kehrer on September 18, 1945 in Albers and he preceded her in death on October 21, 1992.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Deb) Kehrer of Albers, Eugene (Pam) Kehrer of Aviston, Susan (Marion) Seidenstricker of Nashville, Kevin Kehrer of Albers, Marikay (Rick) Gaertner of Belleville, Geriann (Ron) Norrenberns and Diann Kehrer all of Albers; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Holtz of Ashley and Anne Szopinski of Radom; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eileen Toennies of Albers, Carl and Katherine Kehrer and Marie Kehrer all of New Memphis; and a friend of the family, Bernadine Kussatz of Albers.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death a son, Maurice Kehrer; two brothers, Gerhard Toennies and Elmer Toennies; four sisters, Sister Mary Clare Toennies, Helen Padtke, Bernadette Toennies, and Lori Kniepmann; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leo Holtz, Frank Szopinski, Joseph Padtke, Art Kniepmann, Jr., Roland and Gladys Kehrer, Rachel and Herman Renth, Erwin Kehrer, Russell and Esther Kehrer, Ruth and Bill Boad, and Caroleen "Dolly" and Edward Christ; and a friend of the family, Richard L. "Dick" Kussatz.
In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Kehrer, with her husband, operated E. J. Kehrer Farm Supply in Albers. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Ladies Sodality in Albers; member and past president and past chaplain of American Legion Post 1026 Auxiliary; Daughters of Isabella Circle 718; ASC Association – Province of Ruma, IL; and a volunteer and member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary in Breese.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Jack Joyce officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in Albers. The Daughters of Isabella will pray the rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
In lieu of all other gifts memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or for Masses and will be received at the funeral home.
