Valeria C. Korte, 81, of Albers, died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was born April 15, 1929 in Damiansville, daughter of Ben and Margaret (Kalmer) Wiegmann. She married Wilbert F. "Bert" Korte on June 12, 1951 in Damiansville and he preceded her in death on August 27, 1992. Mrs. Korte is survived by her children, Ruth Ann (Paul) Litteken of Aviston, Marvin (Charlotte) Korte of Germantown, Sharon (John) Monaghan of Holly, MI, Maurice (Karen) Korte of Highland; 10 grandchildren, Michelle (Jason) Cocran, Julia (Nathan) Deien, Gregory Litteken, Jan (Fiancé, Troy Kapp) Litteken, Kristin (Jared) Zurliene, Tyler Korte, James (Julie) Monaghan, Stacey (Marcus) Zickefoose, Cole Korte, and Claire Korte; 6 great-grandchildren, Abby Cocran, Andrea Cocran, Paige Zickefoose, Sarah Zickefoose, John Monaghan, and Chase Zurliene; two brothers, Robert (Joan) Wiegmann of New Baden, and Bernard (Helen) Wiegmann of Ottawa; a sister, Irene Thole of New Baden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William F. Schrage, Jr. of Greenville, Cecilia Wiegmann of St. Rose, Pat Wise of Breese, Adele Jansen of Albers, Lou Korte of Highland, Loretta & Edwin Trame of Breese, Wilbert "Wib" Timmermann of Albers, and Arlene Korte of Damiansville; and also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Korte; a sister, Verena Schrage; two brothers, Herbert Wiegmann and Edmund Wiegmann; an adopted brother, Tony Bauman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alvis Thole, Mary Louise Bauman, Ray Jansen, Alfred Korte, Dorothy Timmermann, and Louis Korte. Mrs. Korte was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Altar Sodality. She retired from Peerless Enamel in Belleville. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at St. Bernard Church in Albers with Msgr Donald Eichenseer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Albers. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or St. Bernard Church or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
