Elvira "Sis" Kues, 93, of New Baden, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden. She was born November 27, 1918 in New Baden, daughter of Erwin J. "Spats" and Alvina B. (Schomber) Spaeth. She married Richard G. Kues April 17, 1940 in New Baden and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1998. She is survived by her children, Bob (Linda) Kues of Bentonville, AR, Gary (Pat) Kues of New Baden, Larry (Karen) Kues of Bartelso, Al (Mary) Kues of New Baden; daughter-in-law, Wanda (Roger) Gildig of New Baden; grandchildren, Ted (Jill) Kues, Brett (Joliene) Kues, Chad (Shannon) Kues, Eric (Jenna) Kues, Corey Kues, and Clayton Kues; step-grandchild, Natalie (John) Nixon; great-grandchildren, Cody, Elli, Max, Mikaela, Jackson, Rylie, Peyton and Lucas Kues; step great-grandchildren, Aleana and Amanda Nixon; a sister, Verna Frederick of Belleville; sisters-in-law, Marcella Haukap of Aviston, Frances Schaller of St. Louis, MO, Linda Kues of Aviston; and a brother-in-law, Bill Bussen of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Kues; a grandson, Clint Kues; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann E. Kues; a brother, Richard O. Spaeth and three siblings in infancy, Clifford, Leo and Mary Ellen Spaeth; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edna Spaeth, George Frederick, Oscar and Margie Kues, Ed Haukap, Bob Schaller, Catherine Bussen, Genevieve and Leo Markus, Theodore "Dick" Kues, Teresa and Art Stephens, Rita L. and Al Netemeyer, and Helen and Ollie Bussen. Mrs. Kues was a homemaker and also worked at PN Hirsh in Mascoutah. She was a member of St. George Parish and Altar Sodality in New Baden, the New Baden Senior Citizens and the Trenton Senior Citizens. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, family, playing cards, traveling and puppies. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, Clinton Manor Activity Fund or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
