Kuhn, Janet

Janet F. Kuhn, 81, of New Baden, died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. She was born September 7, 1930 in New Baden, daughter of John H. and Opal E. (Warner) Billhartz. She married Denis R. Kuhn on October 27, 1948 in New Baden and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1990. She is survived by a son, Michael (Judy) Kuhn of Trenton; a daughter, Denyse (Michael) Woody of Bethalto; five grandchildren, William “Bill” (Sharon) Kuhn, Crystal (Jeremy) Wilson, Colin (special friend, Brianne) Kuhn, Brent Woody, and Jason (Meredith) Woody; a great-grandson, Mason Woody; brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Jane Kuhn of St. Louis, MO, Ernst & Wilma Kuhn and Betty & Phillip “Mel” Lee, all of New Baden. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph Kuhn, Florence & J.V. “Bud” Mueller and Cornelius & Marie Kuhn. Mrs. Kuhn served as deputy City Clerk under her husband Denis and then served as City Clerk for a total of 42 years service with the Village of New Baden. In 1959, she was the first Librarian of the New Baden Library. She was a member of St. George Parish and Altar Sodality, the New Baden High School Reunion Committee, the Illinois Municipal League, the Municipal Clerks of Illinois, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, and a former member of the American Legion Post 321 Auxiliary in New Baden where she sang with the ladies quartette. In 2001, Janet received the Illinois Woman of Achievement Award. She enjoyed crafts, woodworking, and community service. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to the Clinton County Relay for Life (American Cancer Society) or to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at the funeral home.
