Richard G. "Slugger" Lampe, 67, of Breese, IL died on Friday, December 2, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, Ill. He was born on July 8, 1938 in Breese, Ill., son of Bernard A. and Pauline A. (Eilermann) Lampe. He married Joan F. Schrage on May 30, 1961 in St. Rose, Ill and she survives in Breese. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Shelley Toennies and husband Dave of Breese; three grandchildren, David Toennies, II, Ellen Toennies and Sam Toennies; four brothers, James Lampe and wife Joanne of Germantown, Jerry Lampe and wife Pat , Dan Lampe and wife Ruth and Paul Lampe and wife Elaine all of Breese; a half-sister, Delores Spees of Richwoods, Mo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jeanne Castillo (Jim Morton) of Breese, Juanita & Robert Leary of Fairfax, VA and Dr. Daniel & Nancy Schrage of Atlanta, GA. Mr. Lampe was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albin and Mary Schrage; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Castillo, and his half brother-in-law, Durwood Spees. He was a member of St. Dominic Parish; Knights of Columbus Breese Council 2869; Breese Lions Club and Mater Dei Knights Club and U.S. Army Veteran. He was a former member of the Breese Chamber of Commerce, Breese Jaycees, Mater Dei Father & Friends and UAW Local 25, St. Louis, Mo. Mr. Lampe retired from the General Motors Assembly Plant in St. Louis, Mo. in1987. He then worked with his wife at Lampe Travel. He enjoyed golf, tending his flower gardens and attending his grandchildren’s events. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2005 and from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. The Lions Club Service will be at 6:30 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to All Saints Academy and will be received at the funeral home.
