Norman S. Lanter, 91, of Wheaton, IL, formerly of New Baden, IL died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Du Page Convalescent Center in Wheaton, IL He was born May 1, 1916 in Mascoutah, IL son of George and Cecelia (Schaeffer) Lanter, Sr. He married Florence E. Graul April 11, 1939 in Okawville, IL and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2000. He is survived by his children, Judith Littlefield and husband Al Killingsworth of Sun City, AZ, Gerald Lanter and wife Claudia of Springfield, IL, James Lanter and wife Joan of Naperville, IL, Joan Norton and husband John of Western Springs, IL and Janet Lanter-Cummins and husband Clark of Midland, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey Littlefield, James (Kathleen) Littlefield, Jason Littlefield, James (Carolina) Lanter, Joseph Lanter, Jane Lanter, Janelle (Michael) Brown, Jalene Lanter, Jennifer Good, Katherine Cummins and Rebecca Cummins; and 11 great-grandchildren Corey Littlefield, Logan Littlefield, Anya Littlefield, Jackson Littlefield, Alec Lanter, Alyssa Lanter, Gracie Brown, Sophia Brown, Elise Brown, Caitlin Norton and Melissa Renck; a brother, Firmin Lanter of Mascoutah, IL, and three sisters, Frances Lautenschlaeger and husband Glenn, of Okawville, IL, Cecelia Lautenschlaeger and husband Floyd of Mascoutah, IL and Gertrude Juba and husband Lambert "Buck" of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Katherine "Kitty" Lanter of Mascoutah, IL; he is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Lanter, Jr. and two sisters, Florence Ryan and Mildred Haas; brother-in-law, Jack Ryan and sisters-in-law, Florentin Haas and Mary Lanter. Mr. Lanter was a retired supervisor with the United States Post Office. He was a member of St. George Church in New Baden, IL. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden, IL with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Childhood Cemetery in Mascoutah, IL. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2007 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden, IL. There will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to masses and will be received at the funeral home.
