Larry Weir Cox, born on April 12, 1938, in Greenwich, New York, passed away on December 19, 2024, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, Illinois. He dedicated a significant portion of his life to his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Over an impressive career spanning nearly 51 years, 28 years Active Duty and the other 23 years as a Civilian, Larry served with distinction as a Weather Technician, followed by roles as Weather Superintendent and Recreation Services Superintendent.
In 1984, Larry made New Baden his home, where he would continue to enrich the lives of those around him. His commitment to service extended beyond his military duties, as he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Cox. He was a proud father to Stephen and Leslie Cox, and Stephanie and Jeffrey Mueth. As a grandfather, he cherished his time with Sean Cox, Nancy Cox, Cullen Mueth, Caelan Cox, and Ashley Cox. He even got to spend time as a great-grandfather to Breya Cox. Each of these relationships filled his life with joy and purpose.
The legacy of Larry Weir Cox will be remembered fondly by his family and friends, who will carry his spirit with them always.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of services on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden.
