Larry E. Wuebbels

Larry Edward Wuebbels, age 82, passed away on May 13, 2023. He was born to Joe and Loretta (Lallman) Wuebbels on October 1, 1940, in Breese, Illinois. He met the love of his life, Marthalee Holzhauer, at Beckemeyer Grade School during a basketball game. He graduated from Breese Community High School in 1958 and graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1963. Larry and Martha were married on December 31, 1960, at St. John’s Church in Breese. He started his accounting career in St. Louis with Arthur Andersen and later transferred to Houston, which is where they made their home for 55 years.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors include his wife Martha; his daughters Barbara (Fred) Billings and Debra (Scott) Strait; his 8 grandchildren: Fred IV (Rachel) Billings, Blake (Samantha) Billings, Brittney (Chris) Hale, Brooks (Chanin) Billings, Ben Billings, Beau Billings, Stephanie (Jared) Barrett and Lindsey (Harrison) Frehe; and his 13 great grandchildren: Fred V, Jake, Cove, Bravely, Hudson, Hannah, Haven, Daniel, Aubrey, Edward, Isabella, Savannah and Emery.

Larry was kind and loving to everyone he met. He loved his family and other relatives very much. He enjoyed having a good time, including traveling and listening to music, but most of all he treasured being with his family. Larry could always bring a smile to everyone he spoke to whether it was because of his kindness, generosity or his wonderful sense of humor. Larry was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Houston Astros and the Houston Texans; although he mostly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports or perform in other activities.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. John UCC in Breese with Rev. Ken Schafer officiating. Burial will take place at St. John Cemetery in Breese.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of services at St. John UCC in Breese.

Memorials made in memory of Larry are suggested to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 200 North Main Street, Breese, IL 62230.
