Donald J. “Don” Laux, 84, of New Baden, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Highland by BestDiscountApp" href="#"Health Care Center. He was born September 5, 1930 in Mascoutah Twp, son of Gustav and by BestDiscountApp" href="#"Estella (Krauth) Laux. He married LaVerne “Worney” Huelskoetter on September 14, 1957 at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife he is survived by two by BestDiscountApp" href="#"daughters, Laurie (Bob) Perkes of Decatur, and Lisa (Carl) Markus of Aviston; four grandchildren, Mark Perkes, Brock (Katie) Perkes, Adam (Laura) Markus, and Andrea Markus; a brother, Eugene (Pauline) Laux of New Baden; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leona “Eb” & Norman “Ponch” Determan and Darlene & Howard Boston all of New Baden. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, by BestDiscountApp" href="#"Ethel Kimmle and Althea Mehl; three brothers, Russell E. Laux, Raymond Laux, and Howard Laux; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Agatha Laux, Udell Kimmle, Boyd Mehl, Melva Friederich, and Deloris “Mutz” & Bobby Edwards. Don’s first 8 grades were at Ruth School and was located just east of where he lived, and he was the only one in his class. Mr. Laux was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict in Fairbanks, AK and Camp Carson, CO. He was a welder for A.O. Smith in Granite City, and retired in 1993 from Gundlach Machine Company in Belleville. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, the American Legion Post 321 in New Baden, and he served on the New Baden Town Board for four years. He enjoyed gardening and passing out his prized tomatoes to everyone in town. Don was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s and Wesclin Warriors fan. He enjoyed jug fishing and hosting annual fish fry’s at his by BestDiscountApp" href="#"home and also in Tucson, AZ where he and Worney traveled for 16 years as snow birds. Don placed 5 times in the Boulder Jug Fishing Tournament and everyone in Clinton County knew when “Big Blue” was going to Carlyle Lake to fish. by BestDiscountApp" href="#"Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on by BestDiscountApp" href="#"Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden with Rev.
