Leora P. Becker

Leora P. Becker, 95, of Breese, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Caring First Nursing Home in Breese. She was born May 17, 1922 in Breese, the daughter of Joseph and Anna, nee Emke, Berndsen. She married Raymond P. Becker October 3, 1945 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1996.

Leora is survived by her son, Phil (Julia) Becker of Breese; two grandchildren, Steven Becker and Emily Hall; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Berndsen of Breese and Georgetta “Honey” Brueggemann of Bartelso; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Steven R. Becker; five sisters, Dorothy Blair, Agnes Obermoeller, Rose Robinson, Estelle Wuesthoff, and Jean Heinsius; three brothers, Edward Berndsen, Robert Berndsen, and Paul Berndsen; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Blair, Harold Obermoeller, Carl Robinson, Sophie Berndsen, Fred Wuesthoff, Erv Heinsius, Rosemary & William Fornelli, Evelyn & Gregory Dulle, Ben Brueggemann, Viola Fauke, and Virgil Becker.

Mrs. Becker was a store manager for Ben Franklin and Mel Rose Fashions in Breese. She was a member of St. Dominic Parish and Altar Sodality, and an honorary member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. Leora enjoyed quilting and led a very active lifestyle that included bicycling, walking, going to her grandsons games, and visiting her sisters.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Patrick Peter officiating. Burial will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

Friends may call Monday, November 13, 2017 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese.

Memorials may be made to Mater Dei High School and will be received at the church or Nordike Funeral Home, 150 N. Clinton, Breese, IL 62230 who is serving the family.
