Loretta Zurliene, nee Hilmes, 90, of New Baden, died Monday, December 5, 2016 at her home. She was born September 30, 1926, the daughter of Bernard and Catherine, nee Luebke, Hilmes, Jr. She married Lawrence Zurliene on May 26, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1982.
She is survived by her children, Dale (Waynette) Zurliene of Trenton, Ron (Jane) Zurliene of Carlyle, Linda (Mike) Schulte of Belleville, and Glen (Bonnie) Zurliene of New Baden; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Flanagan, Laura (Ryan) Henderson, Amy (Nathan) Holtmann, Jill (friend, Doug Wasmuth) Martin, Kara (Aaron) Aschemann, John (Jamie) Zurliene, Mark (Rachael) Zurliene, Kurt (Meaghan) Schulte, Kristine (Brad) Anderson, Kim Satterfield, Collin (Caitlyn Barrow) Zurliene, Taylor (Aimee) Zurliene, and Garrett Zurliene; great-grandchildren, Lucas & Joel Flanagan, Lucie Henderson, Jenna & Jaclyn Martin, Braden, Peyton, & Lauryn Aschemann, Allison & Cooper Zurliene, Hugo & Lawren Schulte, Olivia & Stella Anderson, and Neve Satterfield; and a sister, Therese Markus of Philadelphia, PA.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Frank Kassen; a grandson-in-law, Jason Martin; four sisters, Vera Brendel, Catherine Strieker, Dorothy Hilmes, and Rosemary Hilmes; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vince Brendel, Lawrence Strieker, Joe Markus, Henry & Clara Zurliene, Leona & Walter Richter, Paul Zurliene, Al & Mary Zurliene, Rose Mary Zurliene, Viola & Tony Brandmeyer, Robert & Delores Zurliene, and Cornelius Zurliene.
Mrs. Zurliene was a sales clerk at P.N. Hirsch and True Value in Mascoutah, and at Spaeth’s Market in New Baden. She was a member of St. George Parish and Ladies Sodality, the New Baden American Legion Post 321 Auxiliary, and the New Baden Senior Citizens. She loved playing Euchre, and belonged to several card clubs. Loretta was a very avid Cardinal Baseball fan and never missed watching or listening to a ballgame. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Friends may call Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Thursday, December 8 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden. The New Baden Fire Department will have a walk thru at 7 p.m. followed by the New Baden Post 321 Auxiliary at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, St. George Building Fund, or to Masses and will be received at the funeral home.
