John H. Luitjohan, 74, of Albers, Ill., died Thursday, February 16, 2006 at his home. He was born August 28, 1931 in Aviston, Ill., son of Frank and Agnes (Stoff) Luitjohan. He married Alice F. Korte June 18, 1957 in Damiansville, Ill. and she survives in Albers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Darrell Luitjohan and wife Kathy of Highland, Ill., Ken Luitjohan and wife Anne of Albers, Ill., Diane Krydynski and husband Phil of Highland, Ill., Dennis Luitjohan and wife Denise of Damiansville, Ill., Tim Luitjohan and wife Diane of Albers, Ill., Donna Duncan and husband Nick of Highland, Ill., and Norma Hund and husband Kevin "Tate" of New Baden, Ill.; 23 grandchildren, Kyle, Jason, Cory, Alicia, Sean, Brad, Becky, Savanna, Ashley and Justin Luitjohan, Andrew and Tyler Hamilton, Todd, Sarah and Brian Krydynski, Alyse, Mitchell, Jaida and Bailey Duncan, and Zachary, Jessica, Joshua and Melanie Hund; two brothers, Francis Luitjohan and wife Alvina of Albers, Ill. and Paul Luitjohan and wife Mary Ann of Highland, Ill.; eight sisters, Anna Spihlman of Germantown, Ill., Clara Emig and husband Gualbert of Trenton, Ill., Marie Horstmann and husband Vince, of Highland, Ill., Rita Warnecke of Highland, Ill., Delores Zobrist of Highland, Ill., Millie Frey and husband Allan of Pierron, Ill., Jane Korte and husband Pete of Highland, Ill., and Pat Brandmeyer and husband Rudy of Albers, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Frances Luitjohan of Grantfork, Ill., and Eileen Luitjohan of Highland, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dean Luitjohan, two brothers, Al Luitjohan and Joe Luitjohan; a sister, Agnes Goebel; four brothers-in-law, Ray Spihlman, Lloyd Warnecke, Maynard "Bud" Zobrist and Lawrence Goebel and a sister-in-law, Darlene Luitjohan. He is also survived and preceded in death by members of the Ben and Mary Korte family. Mr. Luitjohan was a retired carpenter. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of St. Damian Parish and Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 1026 and Knights of Columbus Council 9768. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2006 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville, Ill. with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2006 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2006 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
