Luther LaVerne Redeker, age 79, of Shattuc, IL passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Luther was born on August 23, 1936 in Shattuc the son of Richard and Anna (Twenhafel) Redeker. He married Eileen Simms on April 4, 1964, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2007.
Mr. Redeker was also preceded in death by his parents; his infant son: Daniel Redeker; three sisters: Wilma Maschhoff, Erna Tyberendt, and Betty Thusius; two brothers: Wilbert Redeker and Richard Redeker
Luther is survived by his son, David Redeker and wife Angela of Carlyle; his daughter, Lisa Schmitt and husband Andy of Collinsville; one grandson, Luke Redeker; his sister: Eunice Hausler and husband Ray of New Minden; sister-in-law, Alvira Redeker of Centralia; brother-in-law, Roger Thusius of Baltimore, MD; his very special friend, Sonya Squibb of Salem; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Redeker was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia. Luther was a veteran of the United States National Guard. He worked for Ozark Airlines and TWA Airlines for 43 years before retiring. After retirement he continued to farm his land in the Shattuc area and was dedicated to his John Deere equipment. Luther loved Dachshunds and had numerous for pets over the years. He enjoyed farming, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends more than anything.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia with Pastor Mark Girardin officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Ferrin.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle and on Wednesday from 9 until 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia.
Memorials in honor of Luther are suggested to Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School or to the charity of donor’s choice and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
