Marcel Herman Korte, 68, of Albers, died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at his residence. He was born November 14, 1950 in Breese, the son of Vincent and Lucille, nee Hemann, Korte. He married Diane M. Huegen on March 23, 1973 in Albers and she survives in Albers.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Kelly (Joan) Korte of Manchaca, TX, Ladawn (Gary) Gebke of Germantown, and Cliff (Megan) Korte of Greenville; six grandchildren, Maxwell Korte, Samantha Korte, Garett Gebke, Gavin Gebke, Kaitlyn Gebke, and Otto Korte; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Huegen; and siblings and in-laws.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Pingsterhaus; his father-in-law, Delmond Huegen; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Hewlett.
Marcel was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War on a gunner boat as a radio operator from February 1970 until January 1972. He was awarded the perfect marksmanship award and numerous other service medals. Marcel worked for the Germantown Police Dept., the Monterey Coal Mine, and Timmermann Milk. He was a member of St. Bernard Parish in Albers, a charter member of the Albers American Legion Post 1026, a UMWA union member, and belonged to Catholic Fraternal Life.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Anthony Onyango and Deacon Glenn Netemeyer officiating.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 8 a.m. until time of services at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers.
Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family and will be received at the church or Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
