Marcella “Sally” L. Kampwerth, age 86, of Carlyle passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Legacy Place in Breese, Illinois. She was born on September 8, 1930 in Carlyle, the daughter of Henry and Susan (Isaak) Krebs. She married her husband of 62 years, Cornelius “Bud” Kampwerth on September 28, 1954 and he survives in Carlyle.
In addition to her husband, Sally is survived by her children: Darlene (Don “Bone”) Linton of Carlyle, Randy (Lyn) Kampwerth of Edwardsville, and Carla (Jeff) VonderHaar of Carlyle; her son-in-law, John (fiancé Kim) Hudspeth of Aviston; nine grandchildren: Tim (Jessica) Hudspeth, Blake Hudspeth, Joe and Jared Linton, Paul, Joel, and Lia Kampwerth, Austin and Alex VonderHaar; one great granddaughter, Arabella Hudspeth; two sisters: Mildred Kapp of Carlyle, Edna Holthaus and husband Edward of Beckemeyer; her in-laws: Frank (Lucille) Kampwerth, Roland (Rosemary) Kampwerth, Gerald (special friend Viola) Kampwerth, JoAgnes Beckemeyer, Ray Diekemper, Lucile Krebs, Audrey Krebs, and Alberta Kampwerth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Phyllis Hudspeth; three brothers: Elmer, Eugene and Henry Krebs; her in-laws: Sister Veronica Kampwerth, Norbert (Alice) Kampwerth Louis (Regina) Sieffert, Herman Kampwerth, Urban Kampwerth, Joe (Agnes) Kampwerth, Leonilda Diekemper, Linda Kampwerth, and Wayne Beckemeyer.
Sally was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Carlyle and St. Ann Women’s Sodality. In her younger years she worked at Moran Shoe Factory. Sally loved to play bingo and cherished her time with family.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carlyle.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle and on Monday from 8:30 until 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle.
In Lieu of flowers and other gifts memorials can be made in Sally’s memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
