Margaret M. Goetz, 94, of New Baden and formerly of E. St. Louis, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the Breese Nursing Home. She was born April 14, 1923 in E. St. Louis, IL daughter of Donald and Catherine (O’Dowd) Compton. She married Richard J. Goetz on March 22, 1945 at St. Phillips Church in E. St. Louis and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2000.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Donna) Goetz of New Baden, IL, and Mary Ann Goetz and Cathy (Steve) Halterbaum all of Denver, CO; five grandchildren, Jay (Tory) Halterbaum, Scott Halterbaum, Bradley Halterbaum, Ricky (fiancé Ashley Pomalatch) Goetz, and Andrew Goetz; one great granddaughter, Adilynn; two brothers, Donald (Rosalie) Compton of Nashville, IL, and Eugene Compton of Millstadt, IL; a sister, Shirley Brechnitz of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Annie Compton of Fairview Heights, IL; and close friends, Barb & Bill Schindler of Smithton, IL.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lt. Col. Richard J. Goetz, USAF, Ret., she was preceded in death by a brother, James Compton; and three brothers-in-law, Henry, Bud, Edward Goetz and Jan Brechnitz; and her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Compton.
Mrs. Goetz was a homemaker and a member of St. George Parish. She enjoyed decorating, millinery, cardinals, and most of all her grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden with Rev. Chuck Tuttle officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
Memorials may be made to Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
