Margaret J. "Margie" Ottensmeier, 89, of Aviston, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Carlyle Healthcare Center. She was born on April 4, 1936, in Breese Township, the daughter of Herman and Mary A., nee Stoff, Ottensmeier.
Margie taught at numerous Catholic schools, spanning from 1957 to 1971. Her most notable tenure was at Albers Elementary School, where she dedicated 26 years of her life to nurturing and educating her students. Margie's passion for teaching was reflected in her commitment to her pupils, instilling in them the values of knowledge, responsibility, and kindness.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Margie was a vibrant part of the St. Francis Parish community. She was very involved in church activities, sharing her love for her faith with grace and enthusiasm. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Bingo, a pastime that brought her joy and the company of friends.
Margie is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, who held a special place in her heart. Her passing leaves a void in their lives and the lives of many who were touched by her warmth and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Clara Brandmeyer, Joseph (Viola) Ottensmeier, Helen Ottensmeier, Francis Ottensmeier, Mary Ottensmeier, and Sally Ottensmeier. Their memories and the bonds they shared will forever be cherished.
A visitation in Margie’s honor will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston, on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Von Deeke officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Francis Parish Improvement Fund and will be accepted at the church or Nordike Funeral Home, 150 N. Clinton St., Breese, IL 62230 who is serving the family.
