Margaret "Peg" Mary Millard, 79, of Aviston, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O'Fallon. She was born on October 21, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Kevin and Mary, nee Voglewede, Whelan. She married Dr. James Millard December 29, 1966 at Visitation Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO and he survives in Aviston.
Peg devoted 38 years of her career to Rockhurst University, where she held various positions, most recently serving as Executive Assistant to the Provost. Her commitment to her work and her colleagues left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her.
A passionate individual, Peg enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She was an avid walker and long-distance runner, finding joy in the rhythm of her footsteps and the beauty of nature. Peg also had a keen creativity, which she expressed through sewing and knitting. A true dog lover, she was known for the companionship of her beloved dogs, Sugar and Spice, who brought her immense joy and comfort.
Peg was married to Dr. James Millard, and together they raised three children: James "Jim" (Caroline) Millard, Jane Marie "Jamie" Hogan, and Joseph (Tracy) Millard. She found great happiness in being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren: William Hogan, Daniel Hogan, Lauren Millard, Mason Millard, Ava Millard, Anna Millard, and Zoe Hogan. Peg's love for her family was evident in everything she did, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and well-being. She is also survived by her siblings: Kathy Newell, Nancy (Dr. Terry) Heyns, Patricia (Richard) Kalich, and James (Terry Ann) Whelan. Additionally, Peg leaves behind her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, including Mary Jo (Keith) Halverson, John (Donna) Millard, Denise (Richard) Wikiera, and Dr. Thomas (Carolyn) Millard.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Patricia Millard; her brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Maxine Whelan; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Jane Millard; and numerous beloved pets who undeniably made her life richer.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston, from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM with Rev. Von Deeke officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Parish, Clinton County Humane Society, or Mater Dei Catholic High School and will be received at church or Nordike Funeral Home, 150 N. Clinton St., Breese, IL 62230 who is serving the family.
