Daniel R. Markus, 64, of Aviston, died Friday, July 19, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. He was born October 12, 1948 in Breese, son of Lawrence “Snick” and Verena (Wolters) Markus. He married Marilyn Eilering on September 28, 1974 in Aviston and she survives in Aviston. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Heather (Kurt) Huelsmann of Aviston; four brothers, Thomas (Jessie) Markus, Larry (Marcella) Markus, Charles Markus and Mark (Carol) Markus all of Aviston; sisters-in-law, Ellie Markus and Ceil Markus both of Aviston, Barb Dulle of Centralia; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Eilering of St. Peters, MO. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald L. “Porky” Markus and Benedict “Dick” Markus; a sister in infancy, Mary Frances Markus; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Virgil and Elisabeth “Betty” Eilering; two brothers-in-law, Donald T. Eilering and John Dulle; and a sister-in-law, Norma Eilering. Mr. Markus was employed by Markus Cabinet in Aviston. He was a member of St. Francis Parish in Aviston. He enjoyed his clubhouse, hunting and being outdoors. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hannah’s Playground or to Clinton County Humane Society and will be received at the funeral home.
