Rose A. Markus, 92, of Aviston, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was born December 28, 1914 in Aviston daughter of Joseph and Mary (Peek) Nettemeier. She married Hubert H. Markus on November 28, 1939 in Aviston and he preceded her in death on July 8, 2002. She is survived by four sons, Donald Markus and wife Judy, Jerome Markus and wife Cathy, Dennis Markus and special friend Karol George and Jim C. Markus and wife Ruthie all of Aviston; one daughter, Mary Huels and husband Alvin of Beaver Prairie; nine grandchildren, Dale Markus and wife Jayne, Jeff Markus, Mark Markus, Brian Markus, Craig Huels, Michele Diekemper and husband Craig, Lisa Voss and husband Jared, Carrie Markus and Matt Markus; five great grandchildren, Lindsey Markus, Jacob Markus, Madyson Diekemper, McKenzie Diekemper and Abigail Voss; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Rita Markus of Royal Oak, MI, Cyril and Edna Markus of Breese and Dolores Markus of Waterloo. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Otto V. Nettemeier, and Bernard Nettemeier; four sisters, Bernadine Mueller, Anna Nettemeier, Christina Nettemeier and Katherine Nettemeier; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alphonse Mueller, Henrietta Nettemeier, Gregory and Mary Markus, Marcella and Paul Richter, Camillus Markus and Rosina Markus. Mrs. Markus was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Francis Parish and Altar Sodality and the American Legion Post 1239 Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidery and playing cards. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Pat Peter officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. The American Legion and the Auxiliary will visit the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
