Marlin “Dusty” Nordike, of Bartelso passed away at his home on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the age of 80 years. Dusty was born on October 19, 1935 in Irishtown Township the son of Henry E. and Amelia C. (Laux) Nordike. He married Karen Kuhl on September 9, 1995 in Bartelso.
In addition to his wife, Dusty is survived by his children: Terry Eversgerd of Germantown, Sharon (Mike) Seelhoefer of New Baden, Deanna (Ken) Papproth of Collinsville, Bill (Liz) Nordike of Granite City, Keith (Becky) Nordike of Aviston, and Vicky (Dennis) Fuehne of Damiansville; eight grandchildren: Christine, Samantha, Nikki, Justin, Nicholas, Jordan, Breanne, and Kaitlyn; six great grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Juanita (Bob) Kuhl of Carlyle; his brothers-in-law: Daniel (Nancy) Kuhl of Louisiana, Robert (Brenda) Kuhl of Albers, Roger Kuhl of Albers, and Jeff (Janet) Kuhl of Breese; his very close friends Gordon Essington and Carole Nordike; many nieces and nephews, and many great friends.
Dusty was preceded in death by his sister Marie Steinman, two brothers, Robert Nordike, and Edsel “Bud” Nordike; his sister-in-law, Mildred Nordike; and a brother-in-law, Irvin “Guiz” Steinmann.
Dusty was an avid horseman, he owned many over the years. Some of the more memorable ones include Doc, Misty, Bruce, and Tiger. He worked many years at Hunter Packing Company and also farmed. He was the owner and operator of Dusty’s Inn in Bartelso, until closing in 2006. Dusty took great pride in his involvement in the Clinton County Tavern Association, the Clinton County Saddle Club, the Quarter Horse and Paint Horse Associations. He enjoyed shaking dice and loved his Rock & Rye. Dusty loved life and was always out to have a good time. He was known everywhere he went and the endless amount of stories that went with him, will not soon be forgotten.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle. Burial will follow at McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8:00 PM on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle, and again on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 8:00 AM until the time of services.
Memorials in honor of Dusty are suggested to the Clinton County Humane Society, Chakota Therapeutic Riding Center, or to the charity of donor’s choice and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
