Mary Ellen Buss, nee Alberternst, entered into rest on November 27, 2016 at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, IL at the age 87 years. She was born in Aviston on October 8, 1929 the daughter of Henry Benedict and Mary Rose (Kuhl) Alberternst.
Mrs. Buss is survived by her husband Leo Bernard Buss of Breese whom she married on Aug 1, 1950. Survivors also include her children Mary Kay (Duane) Miller of Waterloo, IL; Betty Campbell of Mascoutah, IL; Mike (Linda) Buss of Highland, IL; Arlene Baer of Trenton, IL; Richard (Linda) Buss of Breese, IL; Margie (Mark) Arnold of Breese, IL; Janet (Jeff) Kuhl of Breese, IL; Theresa (David) Rhein of St. Jacob, IL; and John Buss of Breese, IL. She was the grandmother of 20 grandchildren; Alison (Nathan) Essner, Lauren (Dustin) Sellers, Michael (Megan) Nooney, Jennifer (Jason) Holtman, Steven Nooney, Lindsey (Brendon) Hughes, Mikel Buss, Bryan (Chanel) Baer, Amy (Travis) Venhaus, Alyssa Baer, Alicia Buss, David Buss, Lynn (Remmie) Vail, Daniel Buss, Amanda Buss, Matthew (Amanda) Arnold, Mitchell (Lauren) Arnold, Michael Arnold, and Nicholas and Nathan Kuhl; as well as 12 great grandchildren. Very close family friend Vern Mohesky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her five infant brothers, Richard, Herbert, Henry, Marcell and Marvin Alberternst.
Mary Ellen attended Aviston grade school and high school. She was a homemaker on the family dairy farm in Breese. She was an active member of St. Augustine Catholic church in Breese and the Padre Pio Prayer Group. She was an avid quilter and much beloved by her family and friends.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Chuck Tuttle and Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow at St. Dominic / St. Augustine Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Nordike Funeral Home in Breese on Wednesday from 4 until 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday from 9 until 10:45 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese.
Memorials are suggested for masses in memory of Mrs. Buss and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home.
